How to Install the Pedestal for Your Samsung Washing Machine and Dryer

How to Install the Pedestal for Your Samsung Washing Machine and Dryer

Back

A Samsung laundry pedestal is more than just a decorative stand. It raises your front-load washer and dryer to a more comfortable working height, reduces how much you have to bend when loading and unloading laundry, and adds a built-in storage drawer for detergent, dryer sheets, and other supplies. Installing one is a manageable DIY project when you follow the correct steps, have a second person available, and prepare the space before you begin.

This guide follows the same installation sequence shown in the Samsung Care video, covering everything from what comes in the box to the final stability checks once the machines are in position.

Before You Start: Important Safety Note

Do not attempt this installation alone. Samsung specifically states that pedestal installation requires at least two people. Washers and dryers are heavy, and tipping them onto their backs requires controlled movement from both sides to prevent injury or damage.

What Is Included with the Samsung Pedestal

When you open the pedestal box, you should find the following parts:

  • The pedestal unit itself, with the storage drawer already assembled

  • Leg brackets or bracket legs, one for each corner

  • Guide covers for the front corners

  • Mounting screws for attaching the leg brackets

  • A spanner wrench for adjusting the leveling legs

  • An instruction sheet with hardware and compatibility details

Before starting, lay all parts out and compare them to the instruction sheet so you can confirm that nothing is missing.

Required Tools

Gather these tools before you start:

  • Phillips head screwdriver

  • Spanner wrench, supplied with the pedestal

  • Spirit level or bubble level

  • Flat head screwdriver for tightening lock nuts

  • Blanket, moving pad, or cardboard to protect the floor and appliance

  • A second person to help with lifting and positioning

Compatibility: Making Sure You Have the Right Pedestal

Samsung makes pedestals in different sizes for different washer and dryer families. Standard pedestals typically fit 27-inch front-load models, while some models use 30-inch pedestals. FlexWash and FlexDry machines use risers instead of full pedestals.

Before installing anything, verify that the pedestal is correct for your appliance model. Your washer or dryer model number is usually printed on a label just inside the door opening or along the upper back edge. Enter that model number on Samsung’s parts site to confirm compatibility.

Using the wrong pedestal size is a common mistake and can create an unsafe fit.

Step 1: Clean the Installation Area

Before moving any parts into place, clean the floor area where the pedestal will sit. Remove dust, debris, and detergent residue so the pedestal legs can sit flat. Also clear enough surrounding space to safely lay the washer or dryer on its back and move it into position.

Step 2: Prepare the Pedestals

Place the pedestal near its installation area and pull the drawer fully open. This gives you access to the front clamp area.

Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screws holding each of the four leg clamps on top of the pedestal. Open all four clamps fully so they are ready to accept the appliance feet when the machine is lowered into place.

Step 3: Level the Pedestals

It is easier to level the pedestal before placing a heavy appliance on top of it.

  1. Place a spirit level on top of the pedestal front to back, then side to side.

  2. Use the supplied spanner wrench to adjust the legs until the pedestal is reasonably level.

  3. Do not fully lock the legs yet. Final adjustments are made after the appliance is in place.

Repeat this for the second pedestal if both machines will be elevated.

Step 4: Prepare the Washing Machine and Dryer

Before moving the machines, check that the plastic feet on the bottom of each appliance are fully tightened. The pedestal brackets attach around these feet, so they must be secure.

If the washer is brand new, leave the shipping bolts installed during tipping and moving. They protect the internal suspension until the machine is in its final position.

Step 5: Move the Washing Machine and Dryer onto the Pedestals

This is the most physically demanding part of the job and absolutely requires two people.

  1. With your helper, lean the washer or dryer backward carefully until it rests flat on its back on the blanket or padded surface.

  2. Position the pedestal at the bottom of the appliance, making sure the front of the pedestal aligns with the front of the machine.

  3. Lift and position the machine so all four feet drop into the open leg clamps at the corners of the pedestal.

  4. Confirm that each foot is seated correctly before moving on.

Step 6: Attach the Leg Brackets

Once the machine is seated on the pedestal, close each leg clamp around the foot of the appliance.

Use the Phillips screwdriver to install the mounting screws:

  • Front corners typically use 2 screws each

  • Rear corners typically use 3 screws each

Tighten the screws firmly, but do not overtighten them. Once all brackets are secured, the pedestal and appliance are physically joined into one stable unit.

Step 7: Attach the Guide Covers

The guide covers are the plastic trim pieces that hide the bracket hardware at the front corners. They improve appearance and help protect the connections.

Align each guide cover with its front corner and snap or screw it into place based on your pedestal design. Repeat the bracket and guide cover steps for the second appliance if needed.

Step 8: Connect the Washing Machine and Dryer

If your washer and dryer are meant to be physically joined side by side, this is the stage where you connect them using the appropriate Samsung joining kit. Follow the kit instructions so the pair functions as one stable assembly.

If you are installing only one machine on a pedestal, skip this step.

Step 9: Move the Washing Machine and Dryer into Final Position

With the pedestal secured, lift the machine-and-pedestal assembly back upright slowly with your assistant. Keep the movement controlled so you do not stress the pedestal brackets.

Slide the unit into its final laundry position. Then reconnect:

  • Washer water supply hoses

  • Washer drain hose

  • Power cords for each appliance

  • Gas line for a gas dryer, if applicable

If the washer still has shipping bolts installed, remove them now. Do not run the washer with shipping bolts still in place.

Step 10: Final Stability Checks

Before running a cycle, complete these final checks.

Level the Machines

Place the spirit level on top of each machine front to back and side to side. Use the spanner wrench to adjust the pedestal legs until the appliance is perfectly level.

Lock the Leveling Legs

Once the machine is level, tighten the lock nut at the base of each pedestal leg with a flat head screwdriver. This prevents vibration from backing the legs out over time.

Confirm the Drawer Works

Open and close the pedestal drawer fully. It should slide smoothly and close completely without rubbing.

Check for Stability

Push the machine gently from side to side and front to back. There should be no rocking. If the unit moves, recheck leveling and confirm all bracket screws are installed correctly.

Run a Spin Test on the Washer

Load a small amount of wet laundry and run a spin-only cycle. Some movement at the start is normal while the drum balances, but once full spin speed is reached, the machine should run without excessive vibration or walking.

Tips for a Successful Installation

  • Always use a genuine Samsung pedestal made for your exact model.

  • Do not run the washer or dryer until the pedestal installation is completely finished.

  • Keep the original instruction sheet in case you ever need to remove or reinstall the pedestal later.

  • FlexWash and FlexDry models use risers instead of full-height pedestals. The process is similar, but the riser does not include a drawer and is not as tall.

  • If you are unsure which pedestal to buy, use your washer or dryer model number on Samsung’s parts website to find the correct match.

What the Pedestal Gives You

Beyond the installation itself, a Samsung pedestal adds several everyday benefits to your laundry setup.

Ergonomic Height

Raising the washer and dryer by about 15 inches means you load and unload laundry much closer to waist height, which reduces bending and strain.

Storage Drawer

The built-in drawer gives you dedicated space for detergent, fabric softener, dryer sheets, stain removers, and other laundry supplies right where you need them.

Child Safety

With the machines raised off the floor, the doors are less accessible to young children, which can reduce curiosity-related safety concerns.

Better Daily Access

Front-load machines are much easier to use when the doors are raised. Most people find pedestal height noticeably more comfortable for everyday laundry tasks.
