Frigidaire top load washer lids differ from many competing platforms in one important way: the lid wiring harness. On Frigidaire models that include a lit status indicator embedded in the lid frame, a wiring harness runs from the main control board, up through the top panel interior, and connects to the LED or indicator inside the lid. When replacing a Frigidaire lid that includes this indicator wiring, the harness connector must be disconnected before the lid can be fully removed, and the new lid must include the same indicator assembly for the connector to be reused.

On Frigidaire models without the lid indicator wiring, the replacement procedure is simpler: remove the top panel rear hinge screws, release the front panel clips, raise the top panel, and lift the lid off the hinge barrel pins. Both procedures are covered in this guide with the wiring steps clearly identified so they can be included or skipped based on your specific model.

Frigidaire Lid Assembly Components

• Glass lid assembly: The full lid including the tempered glass window, outer plastic frame, and hinge barrel sockets. Frigidaire OEM lid assemblies for top load models are identified by part numbers beginning with 131525500, 134121800, and variants depending on model year and color.

• Hinge barrel pins: Two short cylindrical pins mounted on brackets inside the washer top panel, one on each side. The lid frame hinge sockets slip over these pins from above. The pins remain with the washer and do not transfer to the new lid.

• Lid indicator wiring harness: Present on selected Frigidaire and Frigidaire Professional models with a status LED embedded in the lid. This harness runs from the control board to the lid and must be disconnected before lid removal on equipped models.

• Lid lock strike tab: A plastic tab on the underside of the lid frame that engages the lid lock assembly when the lid closes. On most Frigidaire top load models the strike tab is molded into the lid frame and is not separately replaceable.

Reasons the Frigidaire Glass Lid Needs Replacing

Frame Cracking at the Hinge Barrel Sockets

The barrel pin sockets in a Frigidaire lid frame are oval recesses molded into the plastic at each side of the rear lid edge. These recesses carry the full rotational load of the lid through every open and close cycle. The most common fracture pattern begins with a horizontal crack across the top of the socket opening, where the barrel pin exerts upward force when the lid is near fully closed. The crack grows outward until the socket rim separates and the barrel pin no longer has a full contact surface, allowing the lid to wobble.

Shattered or Cracked Glass Panel

A single heavy impact on the center of the glass panel will shatter tempered glass into small fragments. A sharp impact concentrated near the glass edge, such as the edge of a laundry basket pressed against the open lid, can produce a crack that propagates across the glass without full shattering. Either failure requires full lid replacement on Frigidaire models since the glass is not sold separately.

Lid Indicator LED Failure on Wired Models

On Frigidaire models with the status indicator embedded in the lid, a burned-out LED or a broken harness wire inside the lid frame causes the indicator to stop functioning. Replacing the lid is the only path to restoring the indicator since the LED assembly is not separately serviceable within the lid body.

Before You Begin

• Confirm your model number and part number: The model label on a Frigidaire top load washer is on the back of the unit on the upper rear panel. Confirm the replacement part number at frigidaireparts.com using the full model number.

• Check for wiring harness in your model: Before ordering a replacement lid, check whether your Frigidaire model has a status indicator light in the lid. If it does, the replacement lid must include the same indicator assembly and compatible harness connector.

• Note whether the console needs to be moved: On some Frigidaire top load models, the control console is integrated with the top panel and must be unclipped from the front of the panel before the panel can be raised. The steps below cover this where applicable.

Removing the Old Lid

Step 1: Unplug and Open the Lid

Unplug the washer from the wall. Open the glass lid to the fully upright position.

Step 2: Access the Rear Hinge Area

Move to the back of the washer. Locate the top panel rear hinge screws. On most Frigidaire top load models, the top panel is hinged to the cabinet at the rear by two screws, one visible through each side of the rear panel near the top. Remove both screws with a Phillips screwdriver and set them aside.

Step 3: Release the Front Panel Clips

Return to the front of the washer. The top panel is held at the front by two spring clips recessed inside the seam between the top panel and the front cabinet wall. Insert a putty knife or thin pry tool into the seam at the right front corner and press inward while lifting gently. A click or release confirms the clip has let go. Repeat on the left front corner.

Step 4: Raise the Top Panel

With the rear screws removed and both front clips released, lift the front edge of the top panel upward. The panel hinges at the rear and opens like a hood. Prop the top panel in the raised position using a rigid support such as a wooden block placed between the panel and the rear cabinet, or have a helper hold the panel upright.

Step 5: Disconnect the Lid Indicator Harness if Present

On models with the status indicator, trace the wire harness from the lid along the underside of the raised top panel to its connector plug on the control board or sub-harness mount point. Press the locking tab on the connector and pull the connector body straight apart. Do not pull by the wires.

Step 6: Lift the Lid Off the Barrel Pins

With the top panel raised and any harness disconnected, the lid hinge sockets are now visible over the barrel pins on each side. Tilt the lid slightly forward and then lift it straight upward off both barrel pins simultaneously. The lid separates from the washer. Carry it to a padded flat surface.

Installing the New Lid

Step 7: Position the New Lid Over the Barrel Pins

Carry the new lid to the washer with the top panel still raised. Align the hinge sockets on the underside of the new lid frame with both barrel pins. Lower the lid squarely onto both pins at the same time.

Step 8: Connect the Indicator Harness if Applicable

If your model has indicator wiring, route the harness from the new lid along the same path as the original and press the connector together until it clicks.

Step 9: Lower the Top Panel

Confirm no wiring is pinched between the top panel and the lid, then lower the top panel from its raised position. Guide the front edge downward and align it with the front cabinet frame before pressing the front corners down until both spring clips re-engage.

Step 10: Reinstall the Rear Hinge Screws

Reinstall both rear panel screws and tighten firmly with the Phillips screwdriver.

Step 11: Test Lid Operation

Open and close the new lid several times. Confirm it sits flush with the top panel, closes with an audible lid lock click, and opens smoothly without resistance or binding at either barrel pin. Plug the washer in and run a test cycle to confirm the lid lock allows spin.

Troubleshooting After Frigidaire Lid Replacement

Lid Lock Error After New Lid Installation

A lid lock error immediately after installing a new Frigidaire lid most often indicates that the strike tab on the new lid frame is not aligned with the lid lock assembly opening on the top panel. Open the lid and examine the underside of the lid frame near the center front. The strike tab should be directly above the lock opening when the lid is closed. If the strike tab is offset, the replacement lid may be from a different model variant. Confirm the part number against the model label.

Top Panel Gaps at the Front After Reassembly

A gap along the front edge of the top panel after reinstallation indicates one or both front spring clips did not re-engage. Lift the front of the panel away from the cabinet slightly, align it so the clip receivers on the panel edge are directly over the clip pins on the cabinet frame, and press down firmly on each front corner until the clip clicks. The gap closes fully when both clips are seated.

Indicator Light Does Not Work After Lid Replacement

If the status indicator was functional before replacement but does not illuminate on the new lid, the harness connector was not fully pressed together. Open the top panel, locate the harness connector junction, disconnect it, inspect both sides for bent pins, and reconnect firmly until the locking tab clicks into position.
